Meitu M6 Selfie Smart Phone

The Meitu M6 is a camera-based smart phone that is made and released in China. The main target audience for this phone is females who love taking selfie. The phone caught my attention at first because of its beautiful appearance. There are three different colors of it, white, pink and Hello Kitty version. The Aesthetic-Usability Effect says that aesthetic things are more likely to be tried and accepted than ugly things. To me, the aesthetic appearance of this phone is one of a big reason why I bought it later, even though I had not tried other functions yet, I still thought it must be easy and pleasant to use.

After I turn on the phone, I noticed that, unlike icons in Apple and Google phones, icons in Meitu M6 are much more rounded, which made me more favor this phone. Because of Contour Bias, the round icons looks cute and very optimistic to me. Another thing I noticed was the variety of fonts style. To use a Chinese language in a cell phone, usually there is no choice because of the huge amount of Chinese characters, while in this phone, you can download any kind of font style, and you can even create your own style. This design definitely increases the legibility of contexts because different people usually have different preference on font styles.

Things I described above are just tip of an iceberg. The biggest surprise is the function of this phone. It meets all the context requirements that I need. Physically, it can adjust the screen brightness to the environment. Unlike iPhone, who sometimes perform badly in extreme weathers, Meitu M6 perform well in any circumstances. Socially, you can share contents with your friends or other Meitu users. Also, there is a privacy album that will not show up only if you press and hold the left button and use your fingerprint to unlock that. This highly protects user privacy and reduces the possibility of photo leaking. Organizationally, there is a Meitu Club that you can send your questions and concerns to others anytime. There are also clear instructions when you first time using that phone. Technically, Meitu M6 uses similar system to Andriod, which is a more commonly used system. It increases the learnability of the system and I don't have to spend extra time figuring out how to use it.

Last but not least, the camera function! As it is advertised, it has 21 mega pixels in both front and back cameras (The new iPhone 7 has only 16 mega pixels). It smooths your skin and makes your face smaller, eyes bigger while you can still see every single hair clearly. There is even a soft flashlight on the front of the phone so that you can take gorgeous selfies in a dark environment.

To people who live in China, Meitu is a very good choice due to its low market price (around 400 US dollars) and high functionality. However, Meitu is only made for Chinese mobile carriers. For people outside China, sim card can not be used. I can only use it in a WiFi environment in the U.S., This reduces the accessibility of the phone, because those who want to use Meitu as a cell phone would not be able to do so.

For me, I use Meitu mainly as a camera, the most usage of this phone is due to the few features it has (80/20 rules). I would highly recommend this product to my girl friends because it almost meets my every requirement and it does so good on what it should, that is, taking photos!
